Welcome to the MBL communications centre , where buzzwords fly and there are lots of distractions for all to enjoy. Please remember to feel enlightened as you browse any of the extravagant resources.

Thanks for coming.

Note: MBL has been migrated to a new server, but some of the code is kinda old and musty and doesn't want to agree with the new software underneath. Please let me know if you encounter site problems. -Terri

Spot says: Terri as KaidaDue to widespread voting fraud (and other technical considerations, such as the fact that most of the videos couldn't even be viewed...) Wizards of the Coast has made everyone re-upload and has reset the contest.

The new url for our 5-minute D&D film is

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/6315

(I have been quietly changing the url where I'd posted it before, so your eyes do not deceive you.)

We need votes! It seems you can still vote multiple times per day, but now they've got a captcha (picture of some letters) in there in order to make it harder for people to just write scripts to win the contest. (It's not really enough to stop anyone, but it might be enough to encourage them to play nicely.)

So vote high, and vote often! We can vote until Oct 10th.

Thanks so much everyone! :)

Spot says: Group ShotIn August, I did some shooting for a 5-minute D&D film Ron was making for a contest. The video is now online and we need votes!

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/6315 (edit: new url!)

It's called To Save a Princess and it's a 5-minute film about dungeons and dragons -- it's funny and really well-edited, and worth a watch even if you don't really want to see me acting. But you know you all want to see me in a dress casting spells. :)

It's been entered into a contest sponsored by wizards of the coast, and while final judging is not a "who has the most friends on the internet" sort of deal, they are doing that for the first part of judging, so please take a little bit of time and give us a high score! You can vote more than once, so come back every day and do it again if you're bored. :)

Also, I uploaded a whole bunch of other photos to flickr with comments, or you can view the complete set on my website.

Asad says: Purple fire rains from the heavens; the earth swells to bursting with maple syrup. The earth bursts! Sweet smelling chunks are scattered throughout the cosmos. The survivors must cling to the edge of the maple syrup pools and suck for dear life and sustenance, holding on lest the reduced gravity cause them to float away.

One of them cannot hold on any longer! He drifts away into the hockey puck belt. Slapshots pound into his body; the other survivors cannot look.

One chunk of the maple-burst earth falls into a star, a sweet, sweet pyre of what might have been. The star quickly reaches its dying stage as an iron ember. But it is not iron. It is sugar candy.

O Universe, succulent and tasty you are with your chocolate asteroids. Will you have any mercy on these poor beleaguered survivors? And then we wake up, with the certain knowledge of prophecy.

How are we to prevent this terrible fate to come to pass, you ask? How are we to save the world? What did these poor survivors do to deserve such a tasty, horrible fate? The answer is, they did not attend the special feast day of Yad Adanac.

So come and save the world, benighted ones; attend Yad Adanac on July 1, 2005. We will meet at 12:00 at the not-RMOC, get lunch somewhere, and attend some events. We will feast later on something or other, preferably still-living and warm. Mmm, sacrifice.

Stellar says: Dear LCI Alumni:

Lisgar Collegiate is having its 160th birthday and you are invited!

A dedicated group of 25 former students, current and former staff and parents are meeting regularly to plan this auspicious occasion. The program will include an alumni assembly in the auditorium, a Blue and Gray Night reception and a chance to have coffee with former teachers. Our open house will feature decade rooms, Vox Lycei displays and photographs, projects by current students and clubs, and school tours. Those of you unable to attend previous reunions will be surprised at the changes the school has undergone.

Both the band and orchestra will perform -- and former musicians are invited to join in! Saturday night will feature a dinner/dance at the Congress Centre with live music. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all former Lisgarites - singles, couples, staff, parents, young and the young-at-heart -- to renew acquaintances and reminisce.

If you are traveling a long distance to attend, or overindulge during the reunion, our pick-up sports events, including soccer, volleyball, basketball and Frisbee, will give you a chance to limber up or work off a few pounds. No experience needed! For those aspiring Tiger Woods and Mike Weirs, there will be a tournament at the Meadows Golf Club.

Reservations have been made at several local hotels and an official reunion airline has been designated! And we're hard at work arranging unique and appropriate memorabilia.

So what do you need to do now?

1. Circle the dates Friday, May 28 to Sunday May 30, 2004 on your calendar

2. Let us know by responding to this e-mail:

- whether you plan to attend

- how many people will be with you, and

- whether you will require hotel accommodation

3. Send this e-mail to three friends of Lisgar so that they can be aware of the event. To receive regular reunion updates, they should write to us at reunion-announce-subscribe@lisgar.net , and

4. Watch for further details on our web site (www.lisgar.net/160th) and subsequent e-mail updates. Registration material will be available both on the web site and regular mail in early 2004.

Please take a minute to reply. We look forward to hearing from you.

What: Visits to museums and possibly some social shenanigans afterward.

Where: Meeting at Bank and Sparks St. (there are plenty of places to sit and watch for people there); proceeding on to the Currency Museum in the Bank of Canada at 245 Sparks St.; from there, proceeding in a Southeasternly manner to the Museum of Nature, possibly with a stop to eat if people are hungry at the time; from there... to someone's house? I shall make inquiries about mine; if anyone else wants to offer their house, feel free.

When: Like our last outing, we will meet at 3 pm, and probably wait 15-20 minutes for stragglers. Unlike our last outing, we actually have a plan of where we will be going, so uberstragglers can catch up. We will be at the Currency Museum until we get bored (no later than 5, since it closes then.) We will arrive at the Museum of Nature some time after 5, since that is when the free admission period starts, and leave by 8, since that is when it closes. If we haven't eaten yet, or people are hungry again/still, we may then go somewhere to eat.

Who: Me, Terri, <your name here>.

Why: Because Ottawa is full of neat stuff we never see. *(Date added. Sorry Jamie, I'm a knob.)

At the end of last year a group, including myself and a few of my EngSci friends, started sponsoring a four year old little boy from Tanzania. We've had a letter and pciture sent back, we've also been sending stickers and crayons over to him. It has been most enjoyable for us.

I know of a couple people interested in helping sponsor another child. If there are six people interested, it's only a commitment of $5 a month, if there are more the commitment is even less.

I was wondering if any of you would be interested in getting involved. I know we're all students and can't afford to sponsor a child individually, however, it would make a different in a child's life if together we could sponsor a child. It starts at 8pm, with the Maple Leaf Brass Band (Formerly the Woods Brass Band. I remember singing with them at Centrepoint with the Lisgar Choir, and I've seen them perform several times since. They're very good.) Our band plays after intermission (around 9pm). Tickets are $10 at the door for adults... I'm afraid I don't recall the student/senior price. If you buy a block of 10 tickets, you can get them for $6.
